Aviation Maintenance Technician Day
On May 24th we celebrate Aviation Maintenance Technician Day. Though we are grateful every day for the work technicians do behind the scenes and the contributions they make to flying safety and customer service, on this day we want to thank the dedicated professionals who help make every flight a safe and enjoyable one. From routine inspections and troubleshooting to major repairs and detailed maintenance, aviation maintenance technicians play a vital role in supporting safe flying for everyone in every airplane.
Aviation Maintenance Technician Day is observed on May 24th in honor of Charles Taylor, the mechanic who built the engine that powered the Wright brothers’ first successful flight in 1903. Often referred to as the “Father of Aviation Maintenance,” Charles Taylor’s skill, innovation, and dedication helped lay the foundation for the aviation maintenance profession we know today. His legacy continues every day in hangars, maintenance shops, and flight lines around the world.
At Fixed Wing Aviation Maintenance, we are grateful for the skill, professionalism, enthusiasm, and attention to detail our team brings to the hangar every day at Lakeland Linder International Airport. Aviation maintenance is about far more than turning wrenches. It is about protecting lives, supporting pilots and aircraft owners, and helping ensure every aircraft leaves the ground safely and returns safely home.
To all Aviation Maintenance Technicians, thank you for your dedication, hard work, and commitment to aviation safety..

A New A&P

Anthony shared this post: “Cole Oldman issues me an A&P issued sign-off as Fixed Wing Aviation Maintenance’s newest rated mechanic!”
Way to go, Cole!
Gap seal. Such a small thing, but so important.
There’s nothing better than a beautiful Florida day at Lakeland Linder International Airport (KLAL), especially when it’s spent improving aircraft performance and keeping aircraft flight-ready. Today, Cole from Fixed Wing Aviation Maintenance was on the ramp installing aileron gap seals on a Cirrus aircraft under clear blue skies and perfect flying weather, here in the “Sunshine “State.
Aileron gap seals may seem like a small detail, but they play an important role in aerodynamic efficiency and aircraft handling. Properly installed seals help reduce drag, improve airflow across the control surfaces, and contribute to smoother, more responsive flight characteristics. For airplane owners who value performance, comfort, and precision, upgrades and routine maintenance like this can make a noticeable difference.
Why Aileron Seals Matter on Aircraft
Aircraft performance is built on attention to detail. Over time, worn or aging control surface seals can affect airflow and reduce efficiency. Installing new aileron seals helps:
- Improve aerodynamic performance
- Reduce drag during flight
- Enhance roll responsiveness and handling
- Support fuel efficiency improvements
- Maintain optimal aircraft condition
At Fixed Wing Aviation Maintenance, we understand the importance of precision installation and quality workmanship.
